Presbyterian Women (PW) is an organization within the Presbyterian Church of more than 300,000 women. The programming for the organization offers ways for women to live out their faith in an inclusive, caring community.
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves
- nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
- support the mission of the church worldwide,
- work for justice and peace,
- build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.
WOMEN’S MOVIE DISCUSSION GROUP
This Sunday, June 11, the Women’s Movie Discussion group will finish the discussion of the movie, Hidden Figures, which shares the struggles of African-American women who helped NASA send astronaut John Glenn into outer space. These three women, Dorothy Vaughn (Octavia Spencer), Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), and Katherine (Goble) Johnson (Taraji P. Henson) crossed lines of gender, race, and society in a time where African-American women were considered second class citizens.
• Women are highly valued by God.
• God honors women of faith and gives them opportunities to be influential.
Each week the group has been taking a look at women in the Old Testament who may have been considered “hidden figures” but who contributed to important stories that have grounded us in our faith. We’ve discussed the Hebrew Midwives, Miriam, the skilled women who wove tapestries for the Tabernacle, the Shunammite Woman and this Sunday the topic will be Hannah, who turned to God in her struggles and was valued by God for her faith.
Summer Bible Study
Experiencing Contagious Joy
Tuesdays | 6:30-8:00pm
In this 12-session Women of Faith study, (that we will do in 7) Experiencing Contagious Joy, you will explore what Scripture has to say about our true source of joy, giving thanks in all circumstances, and having a joy that is truly radiant.
You will discover what the Bible says about joy being our strength and how we enter into joy each day. In the end, you will discover how joy is infectious, transmittable, spreadable, and catching - in a word, contagious! (foreword by Patsy Clairmont)
We will meet for 7 weeks on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 – 8pm, beginning June 20 and will finish on August 15 (no meeting 7/4 or 7/25). This was a free d ownload but to cover the cost of printing a folder/binder, the cost to each participant will be $7.
Please signup beginning this Sunday so we know how many books need to be made. Regular or large print will be available. Please indicate preference when signing up. Examples of each will be available to help you decide.
